Doghi (დოღი) is the Georgian word for a traditional horse race — an exciting competition of riders and horses that has long been part of Georgian culture and public celebrations.
In Bakhmaro, Doghi is one of the most spectacular traditions of Bakhmaroba, held every year on August 19. Riders gather in the highlands of Guria to compete, while local families and visitors come together to watch the race and celebrate.
But Doghi is more than a race. It represents courage, horsemanship, strength and the deep connection between Georgian mountain communities and their traditions. The sound of galloping horses, crowds cheering from the green hillsides and the extraordinary mountain scenery create an atmosphere that visitors rarely experience on an ordinary trip to Georgia.
